First jet demo female pilot for the Blue Angels

Lt. Amanda Lee makes Blue Angels history as the first woman to fly in a demo jet with the team.

The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, selected six new officers to join the team for the for the 2023 air show season. Lt. Amanda Lee, of Mounds View, Minn., is currently assigned to the “Gladiators” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106. She graduated from Old Dominion University in 2013.

Spirit of Portsmouth

KC-46A, #17-46034, was recently painted with a tail flash to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city of Portsmouth and the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force.

The Spirit of Portsmouth, a KC-46A assigned to the 157th Air Refueling Wing, sits in the evening sunlight on the ramp at Joint Base Elmondorf-Richardson, Alaska, June 30, 2022. The plane was in Alaska to receive its patriotic new paint job at the 176th Wing’s 36,000 square-foot paint booth, one of the largest in the Department of Defense.
