Major construction for the future USS Enterprise, the third Gerald R. Ford-Class aircraft carrier, has started after the keel was lay at the HII-Newport News Shipyard (NNS), in Newport News on Aug. 23.

The keel laying ceremony was attended by one of the ship’s sponsors, Olympian Katie Ledecky. She is a three-time Olympian swimmer.
Once completed, the future USS Enterprise is scheduled to replace the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).
