South Korea currently has four Boeing E-7A airborne early warning aircraft and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) is seeking to buy another four more AEW aircraft by 2027.
L3Harris intends to modify the Global 6500 by installing an Israeli radar for airborne early warning duties. Korean Air will be responsible for remodeling, parts production for additional aircraft, and personnel training.
The Global 6500 is used by the United States Air Force (USAF) as a airborne communications platform, designating it as the E-11A.
The Saab GlobalEye is a similar aircraft developed by the Swedish defense company Saab. It is based on the smaller Bombardier Global 6000 business jet, and is equipped with an advanced radar system for AEW&C operations. It can be used for both land-based and maritime surveillance, and is operated by the United Arab Emirates Air Force.
