France has qualified Safran’s AASM 1000 smart munition for use on the Rafale F4 standard fighter. It will be use by the French Air Force and Navy. The Direction générale de l’armement (DGA) says qualification on the Rafale F4.1 will being this month.
The AASM 1000 is designed to be adapted to the American BLU109 or MK84 bombs and French ARESIA BA84 and P1000 bombs. It uses the same GPS guidance system that is derived from the AASM 250 along with a range-enhancement kit. A Rafale F4.1 will be able to carry three AASM 1000s on a mission, two on the wings and one under the fuselage.
