H2A sends radar spy satellite into space

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries successfully launched the 46th H2A rocket on Jan. 26 carrying a Japanese radar spy satellite into space.

The Intelligence Gathering Satellite (IGS) Radar 7 will be operated by the Cabinet Satellite Information Center (CSICE), which is part of Japan’s Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office. It will be replacing IGS Radar 5 spacecraft, which is nearing the end of its design life.

Information from the Cabinet Satellite Information Center says Japan has five radar and three optical spy satellites orbiting the Earth.

H2A rocket is a type of rocket developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) that is used to launch satellites into orbit around the Earth. Japan plans to launch 50 H2A rockets into space before switching to the new H3 rocket, which will make its maiden flight next month.
