The squadron will fly the E-11A Battlefield Airborne Communications Node aircraft out of Robins and is a geographically separated unit from the 319th Reconnaissance Wing at Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. The first E-11A will arrive this spring.
The newly activated squadron is led by Lt. Col. Scott Sevigny, who has experience flying the RC-135, the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft, and now the E-11A aircraft
BACN is a communication relay and gateway system that enables military commanders to exchange information from multiple air, ground, and maritime sources, including host nation, joint, and coalition forces.
Sevigny said that the unit’s origins can be traced back to the 28th Troop Carrier Squadron, which was originally named during World War II. The unit will be fully operational by fiscal year 2027, and its personnel are already training with the 319th Reconnaissance Wing to integrate into their mission and operations.
