A Hungarian military helicopter crashed on Jun. 21 during a training mission in neighboring Croatia, killing at least two people on board. The ill-fated occurrence took place as two Airbus H145 helicopters from the Hungarian Air Force embarked on a training flight. Regrettably, one of the helicopters crashed, leading to the loss of two lives, while search efforts are ongoing to locate the third crew member, as confirmed by the Defense Ministry in a statement provided to the MTI news agency.

Preliminary details indicate that the helicopter might have collided with a zip line in the canyon area, which is frequently used by adventurous visitors, as reported by Croatian media. However, a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

Hungarian authorities will collaborate with Croatian investigators to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. The pilots involved were training in mountainous regions and were en route back when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Expressing his condolences, Croatian Defense Minister Mario Banozic acknowledged the dedication of the Hungarian Air Force members and their contribution to joint security efforts. He remarked, “This tragic event in challenging times, in which we witness the most serious threat to global security in decades, reminds us of the importance of solidarity and compassion.”

Hungary ordered 20 H145M helicopters from Airbus in 2018 and these were delivered by 2020.
