A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) FT-7NI trainer jet crashed in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, during a routine training exercise on Friday. The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m., with the two pilots on board ejecting unharmed.

The crash was confirmed by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF. According to Gabkwet, the FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed while engaged in routine training maneuvers. He emphasized that there were no reported casualties or damage to property in the vicinity of the crash site.
Both pilots aboard the aircraft successfully ejected and survived the incident. They are currently under observation at the NAF Base Hospital in Makurdi, where they will receive necessary medical attention and evaluation.
In response to the crash, Air Vice Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, has promptly established a Board of Inquiry. The board’s primary objective is to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the crash. This proactive measure demonstrates the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to thorough investigations and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of its operations.
