The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) secured significant orders for both passenger and specialized variants of its C919 and ARJ21 regional jets, marking a positive outcome for the Chinese manufacturer at the ongoing Singapore Airshow.
Tibet Airlines signed a major agreement for 40 C919 plateau variants, demonstrating commitment to expanding its network within China’s high-altitude regions. This customized model features a shortened fuselage and specific modifications for improved takeoff and landing performance at airports above 7,500 feet. This variant boasts a seating capacity of 140-160 passengers, potentially catering to growing travel demand in areas like Tibet and Qinghai.
Tibet Airlines also signed an order for 10 ARJ21 plateau variants, showcasing the regional jet’s potential for high-altitude operations. This variant boasts a maximum takeoff/landing altitude of 14,500 feet and strong performance in crosswind conditions, enabling it to cover a majority of China’s high-altitude airports.
COMAC also signed a deal with Henan Civil Aviation Development & Investment Group for six ARJ21 derived models. These specialized variants go beyond traditional passenger service, focusing on critical societal needs. The order includes:
ARJ21 fire fighting jet: Designed for rapid response, fire zone location, and efficient fire suppression, while offering daily aerial monitoring and commuting capabilities.
ARJ21 medical service jet: Equipped for aviation medical rescue and patient transfers, facilitating infectious disease transport and critical care emergencies.
ARJ21 emergency management jet: Capable of field patrol, emergency support, airspace command, and establishing temporary communication networks in disaster zones.
