The Giraffe 1X has established itself as a valuable asset for air defense applications. Renowned for its lightweight design and continuous software upgrades, the radar provides critical data for air defense operations. This includes high-quality target data for traditional air threats, drone detection for counter-unmanned aerial systems (counter-UAS), and real-time “sense and warn” capabilities for incoming rockets, artillery, and mortars.

Previously, the Giraffe 1X required separate setup procedures for the radar antenna and its supporting infrastructure. The Compact Radar Module streamlines this process by integrating the antenna into a compact and lightweight unit. This allows for a swift transition from transport to operation with the simple press of a button for antenna deployment. This enhanced mobility makes the Giraffe 1X ideal for situations demanding rapid establishment of air defense capabilities.

“Giraffe 1X Compact Radar Module is an all-in-one solution, made with mobility and operational urgency as key user needs,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

The small footprint of the Compact Radar Module makes it particularly suited for situations with limited operational infrastructure. Despite its compact size, the system retains the impressive 75 km search volume of the original Giraffe 1X, ensuring comprehensive situational awareness. This combination of mobility, ease of deployment, and robust detection capabilities makes the Giraffe 1X Compact Radar Module a compelling option for military forces prioritizing rapid response air defense solutions.
