Saab, a leading Swedish defense and aerospace company, has signed a new contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the delivery of a third GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft (AEW&C). This agreement, valued at approximately $270 million, underscores Sweden’s commitment to strengthening its air and maritime surveillance capabilities.

The latest order leverages an option included in Saab’s June 2022 contract with the FMV, which encompassed the delivery of two GlobalEye aircraft with the option for two additional units. This third GlobalEye signifies Sweden’s continued trust in Saab’s advanced aerial surveillance technology.
Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, expressed pride in contributing to Sweden’s defense with this additional GlobalEye aircraft. He emphasized the aircraft’s ability to provide “unique situational awareness of the surroundings” and early detection of potential threats across air, sea, and land domains.
The GlobalEye, designated S 106 within the Swedish Air Force, is an advanced multi-domain AEW&C solution. Equipped with an array of active and passive sensors, the GlobalEye provides long-range detection and identification of objects across all three environments. This real-time information empowers air forces, armies, and navies with superior situational awareness and the ability to proactively respond to potential threats.
The decision to exercise the option for a third GlobalEye comes at a pivotal moment. Last month, Sweden pledged to donate two Saab 340 AEW&C aircraft to Ukraine in support of their ongoing conflict. The addition of this third GlobalEye ensures that Sweden will be able to maintain its own robust aerial surveillance capabilities despite this significant donation.
