The F-15EX made its debut public appearance at the Oregon International Air Show (OIA). The advanced fighter jet, operated by the 142nd Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard, wowed the crowds with flyovers.
The F-15EX, a significant upgrade from its predecessor the F-15C, boasts a range of technological advancements. Equipped with advanced sensors, computers, flight controls, and enhanced power, the EX represents a generational leap in fighter aircraft capabilities. Its “digital backbone” is designed to facilitate rapid integration of new technologies, ensuring the aircraft remains at the forefront of airpower.
The air show provided an opportunity for the public to witness firsthand the capabilities of the F-15EX. The 142nd Wing conducted multiple flyovers and flybys, showcasing the aircraft’s agility and power. U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jonathan Friedman, commander of the 123rd Fighter Squadron, emphasized the significance of the appearance, highlighting the years of effort invested in bringing the EX to Portland. “A lot of people internal and external to the 142nd Wing have worked for many years to make this conversion a reality, [and] it’s a privilege to get to represent all those folks and all their efforts at an event like this.”
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of maintainers worked tirelessly to ensure the aircraft’s flawless performance. Master Sgt. Quentin Manley, the alert chief enlisted manager for the 142nd Maintenance Squadron, oversaw maintenance operations and expressed pride in the team’s contribution to the air show.
