RTAF strengthens partnership with Diehl Defence for IRIS-T

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has signed a new support contract with Diehl Defence for the IRIS-T short-range missile system. This agreement builds upon a long and successful collaboration between the two entities. The RTAF already utilises IRIS-T missiles on its Gripen, F-16, and F-5 aircraft.

The new contract, signed in Germany in early October, focuses on bolstering the RTAF’s operational capacity for the IRIS-T across its entire fleet. It encompasses integration support, technical logistic support, and live firing support. Notably, the RTAF has successfully integrated the IRIS-T missile into their F-5TH aircraft, providing the fighter with a new weapon in its arsenal.

For Diehl Defence, this agreement marks another significant step in solidifying their partnership with the RTAF and expanding the use of IRIS-T to additional platforms. The IRIS-T, a fifth-generation short-range air-to-air missile developed by Diehl Defence, is currently integrated into several aircraft, including the Eurofighter Typhoon, Gripen, F-16, EF-18, F-5, and Tornado. Furthermore, integration of the IRIS-T missile into the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) KF-21 fighter aircraft is currently underway.
