The world-renowned Exocet anti-ship missile family reached a new milestone with the 4,000th unit rolling off the production line at MBDA’s facility in the Centre region of France. The landmark missile was recently handed over to the French Navy, marking a significant achievement for both MBDA and the French armed forces.
The Exocet, long recognised as one of the world’s leading anti-ship missiles, has been a cornerstone of naval warfare for decades. The missile’s long-range capabilities, “high subsonic” speed, and adaptability to various launch platforms, including ships, aircraft, and land-based systems, have made it a formidable weapon system. Used by 36 nations worldwide, the Exocet has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in combat operations, solidifying its reputation as a reliable and potent deterrent.
MBDA has ensured the Exocet family remains at the cutting edge of anti-ship missile technology through continuous development and upgrades. Incorporating advanced technologies like new seekers and missile algorithms, such as those found in the Exocet MM40 Block 3C, the company has maintained the Exocet’s superiority in challenging maritime environments.
To celebrate the production milestone, MBDA is creating a special display model of the 4,000th Exocet for the Euronaval 2024 exhibition. This unique model will feature a distinctive colour scheme designed to highlight the key features of the missile. Visitors will be able to easily identify aspects like its renowned reliability, “fire-and-forget” capabilities, and ability to operate in any weather condition, against diverse military targets, and in complex electronic warfare environments.
At Euronaval, MBDA is also expected to showcase the latest addition to the Exocet family – the Exocet SM40. This submarine-launched variant represents the next generation of the Exocet and boasts a cutting-edge Comprehensive Mission Planning System that enables it to engage targets in complex attack scenarios with high flexibility.
