U.S., Spain reach deal on clean-up of Palomares B-52 crash site

The U.S. government has finally agreed to do the final clean-up of the Palomares B-52 crash site in southern Spain, nearly fifty years since the bomber collided with a refueling tanker.

U.S. secretary of state, John Kerry, and the Spanish foreign minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, signed an agreement on Oct. 19 to ship the contaminated soil to a suitable location in the United States.

Three nuclear bombs fell around Palomares and two spilled plutonium around a 200-hectare area.
