USSOCOM bought Puma UAVs that may not meet mission requirements

The Pentagon’s inspector general has highlighted potential problems with U.S. Special Operations Command’s purchase of Puma AE UAVs from AeroVironment.

The watchdog said in a report that the hand-launched mini-drones “didn’t meet Special Operations Command’s stated needs for launch and recovery, or requirements for its weight and size.”

During one test, the UAV landed 81 meters from its designated spot. The requirement was to land within 25 meters.
