An abandoned Dnepr early-warning radar at Crimea’s Sevastopol will be reactivated with components coming from a similar station near Irkutsk in Eastern Siberia.
The facility fall into disuse sometime after it came under Ukrainian jurisdiction and has been abandoned more than 10 years.
Its role was overtaken by a Voronezh-DM radar station near the Russian city of Armavir but recent NATO activities near Russia’s border has prompted Moscow to improve its early-warning coverage.
