First F-15/F-16 IRST Advanced Datalink test

The U.S. Air Force has proved that a F-15 and a F-16, both equipped with the Legion Pod, can use the pod’s IRST21 infrared sensor to passively triangulate target position.

An F-16 and F-15 assigned to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, prepare to test a datalink between two infrared search and track (IRST) pods, April 7, 2022. The two-week test event started on Apr. 7 at Eglin Air Force Base.

Both jets shared their sensor data using the pod’s Advanced Datalink.
