C-130 from Georgia ANG leased to Argentina

The U.S. Air Force has commenced the leasing of a C-130H aircraft to the Argentina Air Force, marking the beginning of an essential collaboration. Through the Georgia Air National Guard, this support underscores the longstanding partnership between the United States and Argentina, while solidifying the State Partnership Program between the Georgia National Guard and Argentina, which originated in 2016.

Commander of the Georgia Air National Guard, Maj. Gen. Konata Crumbly, emphasized the growth of the partnership and the contributions it makes towards strategic objectives. The involvement of the Air National Guard in this mission is facilitated by their experience with the C-130H and the National Guard’s State Partnership Program.

As part of the lease agreement, air crews from the 165th AW and Argentina flew together to deliver the aircraft. Additionally, Guard Airmen from the 165th AW will remain in Argentina for ten days to provide training for up to five additional crews at the I Brigada located in El Palomar Air Base.

The C-130, renowned for its tactical capabilities, will predominantly serve in airlift missions, operating from rugged terrain and enabling airdrops of troops and equipment into remote regions. Notably, this aircraft, being 21 years younger than others in the Argentina fleet, has the potential to extend the fleet’s lifespan for several more years.

The lease arrangement facilitates Argentina’s aircraft divestment and advances their initiatives and objectives, according to Air Force Col. Scott Humphrey, Chief of International Affairs at the National Guard Bureau. This partnership showcases the collaborative efforts of the National Guard, allies, and partners, working together to enhance equipment, readiness, and mobility.

Through Total Force Integration and the State Partnership Program, this initiative promotes the development of common operating principles and enhances the ability of aligned military forces to operate effectively together, fostering improved international cooperation.
