Hungary welcomes first C-390 for testing

Hungary gears up to welcome its first Embraer C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft on Apr. 12. The aircraft, manufactured in Brazil, will arrive at Kecskemét air base for a three-week testing period, marking a significant step towards replacing the Hungarian Air Force’s (HAF) existing fleet of An-26 turboprop transports.

This testing period will be the final stage before the C-390 enters Hungarian service. The aircraft will undergo both ground and air testing at Kecskemét. A crucial aspect of this phase will involve the installation and evaluation of NATO-standard communication equipment, ensuring seamless integration with allied forces.

Following the successful completion of testing, the C-390 will return to Brazil for final modifications and preparations for official handover to Hungary. This is expected to take place sometime in the autumn of 2024.

The acquisition of two C-390s signifies a major upgrade for the HAF’s airlift capabilities. The C-390 offers superior performance and payload capacity compared to the An-26, providing the HAF with a more versatile and efficient platform for military transport missions.
