First SBIRS launched into orbit
The U.S. Air Force’s first Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) satellite was successfully launched into orbit on Saturday, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida by a Atlas 5 rocket.
The SBIRS is designed to replace the old Defense Support Program (DSP) constellation.
Stealthy Black Hawk doomed by vortex and high walls
During his debrief to U.S. lawmakers, Vice Admiral William McRave told them that one of the Black Hawk helicopter had to crash land after entering a vortex condition caused by higher than expected temperatures and high walls surrounding the compound.
