MV-22s land on USS Bonhomme Richard

VMM-265 chose Thailand as the location to carry out the first MV-22 landing on board USS Bonhomme Richard on Feb. 19.

130219-N-VA915-079 GULF OF THAILAND (Feb. 19, 2013) ?An MV-22 Osprey assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 takes off from the flight deck of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as another Osprey prepares for take-off. The Bonhomme Richard ARG, currently on deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, is taking part in Cobra Gold, a Thai-U.S. co-sponsored multinational joint exercise designed to advance regional security by exercising a robust multinational force from nations sharing common goals and security commitments in the Asia-Pacific region. The AN/AAQ-37 Electro-Optical Distributed Aperture System (DAS), developed for the F-35 Lightning II, has added hostile ground fire detection to its capabilities by successfully detecting and locating tanks that were firing live rounds during preparations for a military exercise.

Pentagon may put safety features back into F-35

The fueldraulic fuses and coolant shutoff valves that were removed from the F-35 earlier may be installed back after warning from the Pentagon’s weapons tester that the stealth fighter is 25 percent more vulnerable to exploding in mid-air after being hit.
