Marines fire Stinger missile from Mark VI patrol boat in the Philippine Sea

U.S. Marines with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), fire a FIM-92 stinger missile from a Mark VI patrol boat during a live fire exercise in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 27, 2021. This training event was the first time a FIM-92 stinger missile has been fired from a Mark VI patrol boat. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the Amphibious Squadron 11 in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. USMC F/A-18s refuel from HC-130J Combat King II for the first time

HC-130J Combat King II assigned to the 39th Rescue Squadron carried out its first mid-air refueling with USMC F/A-18s on Feb. 22 for the first time.

F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft connect with an HC-130J Combat King II for nighttime high-speed air-to-air refuel Feb. 22, 2021. The completion of this milestone supports joint-service interoperability and enhances the success of military operations worldwide. This HC-130J capability increases available assets to conduct operations jointly where other aircraft may not be available, allowing the mission to continue unhindered. F-35Bs from USS Makin Island are now supporting Operation Inherent Resolve

The U.S. Marine Corps 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit declared that the air wing on board amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) has air operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve from Feb. 13.

210213-M-PQ459-1013 ARABIAN GULF (Feb. 13, 2021) – A U.S. Marine Corps F35B Lightning II assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepares to take off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) during flight operations in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, Feb. 13. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 15th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
