3rd MAW retires AH-1W

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) retired its last AH-1W on Feb. 6 with Capt. John T. Fischer and Capt. Daniel J. House flying the last Super Cobra to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

One after another, Marines from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron (HMLAT) 303, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 39, lined up on the flight line at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, Calif., to send off the last 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) AH-1W “Super Cobra” as it departed on its final flight, Feb. 6, to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base’s Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) in Arizona. All three F-35 variants underwent cold-weather testing at Eielson AFB

All three variants of the F-35 were brought to Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska for cold weather testing by the Joint Strike Fighter Operational Test Team (JOTT).

CO of VMM-265 fired

Marine Corps Times reported that the commanding officer of VMM-265 was fired by Brig. Gen. Thomas Weidley, the commanding officer of the 1st Marine Air Wing on Jan. 26.
