The F-35 program office is considering an option to keep some F-35s in the U.S. fleet with Block 2B software, instead of sending them for an expensive upgrade to newer standards, Stephen Trimble reports.
Jane’s was told at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2017 that the Royal Navy has decided not to retire the Harpoon anti-ship missile in 2018 and the weapon will remain in service at least till 2020.
Thirteen F-35C pilots had their carrier qualification aboard USS Abraham Lincoln from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7 and during this time, two airmen from the U.S. Air Force’s 33rd Maintenance Squadron were on board the carrier to qualify Abraham Lincoln sailors to operate F-35 support equipment as well.
