In a future near-peer conflict, the U.S. Air Force might have to disperse its aircraft to austere locations to escape enemy attacks. However, the challenge will be to create runways rapidly at these locations. One solution proposed by a team called “Project Medusa” is to use biomanufacturing to build runways.
