France announces intent to procure Saab GlobalEye
France is moving to replace its aging airborne early warning fleet with plans to acquire advanced surveillance aircraft from Sweden’s Saab. The country announced its intention to acquire GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft to replace its E-3 AWACS platforms, with a joint declaration of intent signed at the Paris Air Show on June 18, 2025.

Saab partners with General Atomics to add Airborne Early Warning Capability to MQ-9B
Swedish defense company Saab has announced a strategic partnership with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to develop airborne early warning and control capabilities for the MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft platform. The collaboration combines Saab’s sensor technology with General Atomics’ unmanned aircraft systems to create what the companies describe as an affordable alternative to traditional manned early warning platforms.

Thailand Confirms Gripen E/F Selection with Comprehensive Offset Package
The Royal Thai Air Force confirmed on Jun. 4, its selection of the Saab Gripen E/F as its new multi-role fighter aircraft, following a comprehensive evaluation process. The decision addresses Thailand’s requirement for 12 replacement fighter aircraft to modernize its F-16 aging fleet. Saab and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration will now proceed with the next steps in the procurement process, though no contract has yet been signed.

Philippines secures additional FA-50 fighter jets from South Korea
The Philippines has signed a $700 million contract with Korea Aerospace Industries to purchase 12 additional FA-50 fighter jets. The deal, finalized on Jun. 3 with the Philippine Department of National Defense, will bring the total number of FA-50 aircraft in the Philippine Air Force fleet to 23 units. Delivery of the new aircraft is scheduled for completion by 2030.
