The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) said today that China has installed large anti-aircraft guns and probable close-in weapons systems (CIWS) on the artificial islands it controls in the Spratly archipelago.
Japan’s Defense Minister Tomomi Inada told reporters that she has asked the U.S. military to suspend flights of the MV-22 after one went down in waters off Okinawa on Dec. 13.

Turkey lost a F-16 on Dec. 12 as the jet was approaching an air base in Diyarbakır to land. The pilot was able to eject and was reported to be in good health.
