The Mil Mi-26 helicopter made its maiden flight on this day 45 years ago. With a maximum takeoff weight of 56 tons, it is the largest helicopter to have entered serial production. The largest helicopter however was the Mil V-12.

The Kenyan Air Force put up a flypast during Jamhuri Day on Dec. 12. Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya and marks the day in 1963 when Kenya gained its independence from British colonial rule and became a republic. The word “Jamhuri” means “republic” in Swahili, the national language of Kenya.
South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced plans to develop a long-range, air-launched cruise missile (ALCM), to be mounted on the country’s KF-21 fighter.
Latvia has taken delivery of two UH-60M helicopters from the United States on Dec. 11.

A contract has been entered into by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace with the Netherlands Ministry of Defence to supply the fleet of Air Defence & Command Frigates with the Naval Strike Missile.
