The Japanese government is set to acquire the site of an abandoned school and school dormitory on Mageshima island as part of the plan to turn the island into a field carrier landing practice (FCLP) site for the U.S. Navy.

BQM-177A achieves FOC during SM-2 exercise in the Philippine Sea
The BQM-177A subsonic aerial target achieved full operational capability during a launch and intercept as part of Pacific Vanguard 2022 (PV 22) in the Philippine Sea on Aug. 28.

PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 28, 2022) – The Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Alan Shepard (T-AKE 3) launches a BQM-177A subsonic aerial target (SSAT) during a Standard Missile (SM) 2 exercise conducted with Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52) as part of Pacific Vanguard (PV) 22 while operating in the Philippine Sea, Aug. 28.
