U.S., Japanese Navies to Conduct Mystery Joint Exercises
USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and its strike group departed Yokosuka, Japan, Oct. 17 along with CVW 5 and Japanese press reports claim that it will conduct drills geared towards intercepting and searching North Korean vessels with the Japanese.
The U.S. and Japan are calling the exercises "regular" and part of normal operations but an insider with Japanese navy said it is not normal for the strike group to return to sea one month after returning from a three-month summer cruise on Sept. 15.
