USAF Chief Master Sgt. to get Medal of Honor posthumously

Chief Master Sgt. Richard L. “Dick” Etchberger, a U.S. Air Force senior NCO, will receive the Medal of Honor Sept. 21 in a White House ceremony for his actions at Lima Site 85, Laos in 1968.

Etchberger was killed after saving the lives of some of his crew when the radar site was overran.

He single-handedly held off the enemy with an M-16, while simultaneously directing air strikes into the area and calling for air rescue.
