Navy Times reports that the DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer will not have the S-band Volume Search Radar (VSR) and will use the SPY-3 X-band Multi-Function Radar as its primary radar.
The move is expected to save $600 million for the Navy and pave the way for a BMD radar to be added in future.
