Commander of U.S. Army Europe, Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, confirmed to reporters that the AN/TPY-2 x-band radar based in Turkey’s Malatya province is now operational.
This is the first time a senior military officer has confirmed the operation of the X-band radar in Turkey. Earlier, Turkish news outlets reported that the radar went into operation on Jan. 1.
