JASDF aircraft failed to detect radioactive materials in air samples

Japan has decided to cease all flights to collect air samples and test them for radioactive materials that might be present in the atmosphere after North Korea said it donated a nuclear weapon on Jan. 6.

The report from NHK says the radioactive materials have a shelf-life of around 14 days and since the air sampling flights had so far failed to test positive for those materials, the Japan Air Self Defense Force will terminate those missions.

After North Korea announced it had tested a nuclear device, the JASDF sent four T-4s and a C-130 to collect air samples.
