The new variant simply pairs the sensor from the AMRAAM to a Evolved Sea Sparrow missile (ESSM) and gives a 50 percent increase in maximum range and 70 percent increase in maximum altitude.

Modifications done to accommodate the new missile include extending the top row of three canisters by a foot, Defense News reported.
