The flare was marked as a “USAF IR FLARE” and there were at least two other times when villagers in the state of Odisha found them in November, Odisha Sun Times Bureau reported.

The origin of the flares are unknown and it could not be ascertain if the flares came from Indian Air Force fighters.

The area the decoys were found is not far from Kalaikunda Air Force Station and the last time American-made fighters were there was Nov. 7 to Dec. 8 when the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) deployed six F-16s there for a Joint Military Training (JMT).

A Singapore Ministry of Defense press release said the F-16s were there for “Dissimilar Air Combat Training and Mission-Oriented Training” with Indian Air Force Su-30s.
