Japan wants to build 3,000 ton warships; construction at 2 ships per year

Reuters says Japan has switched its focus from building large warships to smaller 3,000 ton vessels in order to better patrol the East Sea with more ships.

These multirole warships will be built at a rate of 2 ships per year. There will be eight ships ordered initially.

Work is expected to start next year.
