Group Captain Jasveen Singh Chatrath is said to have misidentified the centerline of the runway and taxied the aircraft into obstacles at the Thoise airfield in Ladakh.

The incident damaged a propeller and some parts of the wing.

The service is now left with just four C-130Js. A total of 13 aircraft were ordered, one was lost in an accident in 2014.
