The U.S. Air Force has given contracts to Boeing and Northrop Grumman for the Ground-based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) phase one program.
The GBSD will replace the aging Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile.
Both companies will have to complete technology maturation and risk reduction work by Aug. 20, 2020.
