Virtualization technology allows USN to shrunk AEGIS hardware into rugged cases

The crew of guided missile destroyer USS Thomas Hudner test fired a SM-2 missile off the coast of Virginia on Mar. 25. The crew used the new AEGIS Virtual Twin system to carry out the firing.

The sailing branch has shrunk the computer hardware required to run the AEGIS system into rugged cases by using more power computers running on virtualization technology.

The test was to determine that this virtual system can control the ship’s radar and weapon systems just like the current one.
