Japan cleared to buy two AEGIS systems

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress on the potential sale of two AEGIS Weapon Systems (AWS) to Japan.

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and U.S. Sailors manning the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Test Complex (AAMDTC) at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) at Kauai, Hawaii, successfully conducted Flight Test Integrated-03 (FTI-03).

Although the Pentagon did not say in Transmittal No: 19-08 that the two systems are for the Aegis-ashore program. The price tag quoted – $2.15 billion – and “construction services for six vertical launch system launcher module enclosures” do suggest so.
