JMSDF to conduct joint training with British Carrier Strike Group in Gulf of Aden

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force will conduct joint training with the British Carrier Strike Group in the Gulf of Aden, Kyodo News reports.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Sept. 23, 2019) Royal navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08) transits the Atlantic Ocean, Sept. 23. The aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), with embarked Carrier Air Wing 3, is underway conducting the Tailored Ship’s Training Availability (TSTA) and Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) as part of the basic phase of the Optimized Fleet Response Plan. Separately, Sankei News in Japan says the defense ministers of both countries are expected to hold discussions on Jul. 20 regarding the joint exercise with the British aircraft carrier task force during its visit to Japan later this year.

JS Yugiri is currently deployed to Gulf of Aden as the 39th Deployment Surface Force for Counter Piracy Enforcement.
