A-10s and C-146s will land on a highway in the United States

The Michigan Air National Guard will conduct its first road runway training exercise on Aug. 5.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II is the first Air Force aircraft specially designed for close air support of ground forces. They are effective and survivable twin-engine jet aircraft that can carry a wide variety of munitions that can be used against all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles.

A stretch of road on M-32 near Alpena will be closed for five hours from 0800-1300 hrs so that four A-10s and two C-146s can land and take off.

The A-10s are from the 127th and 355th Wing while the C-146s are assigned to Air Force Special Operations Command.
