New video of RoCAF F-16 runway excursion at Pingtung airbase

A new video taken by the public on today’s F-16 runway excursion at Pingtung airbase, Taiwan has emerged.

The jet was seen landing on a taxiway that was simulating a road runway at the northern side of the base.

The video shows the aircraft touching down just behind the piano bars on runway 32, at this point, the runway length remaining for landing is approximately 5,600 ft. The total length of the runway is 6,600 ft.

A last-ditch attempt to stop the aircraft by deploying the drag chute proved ineffective.

Air Force Chief of Staff Huang Chih-wei later in the after told reporters that two lieutenant colonels were on board the jet. One was a Weapon Systems Officer (WSO). The damage to the jet was limited to its nose and landing gear.
