RoCAF F-16V landing gear accident during scramble on Sept. 23

A Republic of China Air Force (RoCAF) F-16V fighter, #6650, suffered a landing gear collapsed during a scramble from Chiayi air base on Sept. 23.

That morning, 19 aircraft from the PLA approached Taiwan’s air defense identification zone and the F-16 was one of the aircraft being scrambled.

The pilot had reported an issue with the landing gear during the first start-up. After troubleshooting by the ground crew, the jet was started up again. However, due to human errors, the landing gear retracted as the jet was starting up.

A spare aircraft was scrambled to take its place.
