E-3G demonstrates ability to update ESM database in real-time while airborne

A recent flight test over central Texas saw an E-3G AWACS update its electronic support measures (ESM) database in real-time using existing beyond line-of-site satellite communications system.

The early warning aircraft had collected electronic warfare signatures using its ESM and transmitted the data to the 36th Electronic Warfare Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base. The unit then took less than an hour to analyze and corrected deficiencies observed in the data, and transmitted the updated file back to the E-3G.

The proof-of-concept test is referred to as Airborne Cooperative EW Integrated Reprogrammable Exchange (ACEWIRE).
