The Italian Air Force has decided not to proceed with plans to purchase the F-35B until it has acquired the F-35A.
Italy had planned to buy 40 STOVL F-35s together with 69 conventional F-35s for its Air Force.
The navy is seeking 22 F-35Bs for its aircraft carrier.
