Former U.S. Air Force Secretary Mike Wynne suggested that the Air Force get rids of its AWACS and JSTARS platforms and use the F-35 to replace the lost capabilities.
Wynne argued that the large aircraft will be too vulnerable in times of war and the F-35 is more survivable as an intelligence gathering asset.
