South Korean marines stationed on Gyodong island off the western coast of South Korea mistakenly fired at a passenger jet on Friday.
A Marine Corps spokesman said the soldiers aimed their K-2 rifles at the airliner after mistaking it for a North Korean aircraft. The Asiana flight was preparing to land at Incheon International Airport.
